The what: My final thesis project explores how our constantly-changing cultures affect language. It encourages audiences to try to find meaning in basic units (a sound, a word, an emoticon), showing that when language is removed from its cultural context, it is difficult to understand.

The how: A gallery installation using cut-outs and vinyl lettering coupled with two books, a dictionary and pronunciation guide, to go further in depth. Can you figure out what the mouths on the wall read?*

The why: Our everyday experiences enrich the ways we communicate with one another. If we think about language in a broader context, perhaps we can understand each other better.

*How easy is this to understand?
